"Grape varieties
60 % Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc.
Vigorous grape varieties, pruned to »guillot mixte»: the vinegrower chooses a cane (branch with 6 shoots) out of the old wood of the vine stock and a cot (with 2 eyes) on the other side. This traditional handling provokes the grapevine to search for its vital and essential elements in the depth of the soil.
Ageing of Prestige 2007 in oak barrels from Tronçais
Wine making
The grapes are harvested by hand at the peak of their maturity in conditions of perfect hygiene.
After de-stemming the grapes are put into tanks for the postfermenting maceration which will take about 2 to 3 weeks under a controlled temperature. During the wine making we give preferential treatment to the extraction of fruit flavour as well as to obtain a long and silky tanic structure. In order to preserve the wine’s character it will not be filtered. It ages in oak barrels at least one year. the winemaker uses natural yeasts and organic farming but no certified"
I follow Château Thuron for several years . It is clean, pure, without chemical yeast, without chaptalization. You must keep them in the cellar for several years. I tasted the 2002 last year (small vintage) it was beautiful.
The wines:
Château Thuron Tradition: If you want wine for keeping, you can buy them young.
Château Saint-Martin de Monfélix: it is more mineral than others.
Cuvée prestige: In case of a blind tasting among the great wines of Bordeaux, you will surprise your guests. They are also wines for keeping
Cattleya Thuron (Bordeaux Clairet): it is a curiosity for the summer
Cuvée Prestige 2002 (after 1 day opening) 17 €
Dark cherry to orange shades
1: Nose of candied peppers pure
2nd: nose of candied fruit and peppers
The nose is pure and racy
The attack is smooth and semi ample
The palate is full, concentrated and long
The tannins are hard but fine, the finish is slightly bitter but pleasant, the retro-olfaction is long and complex (mineral, pepper and tannins)
This Cabernet Sauvignon wine from small vintage is generous. It can be drunk now
